It is important to note that as the field of Substance Use research evolves so does the language we use to discuss it. This field has historically been referred to as Addictions and those with problematic substance use as “addicts” or “abusers”. In this course we will be using the term Problematic Substance Use to reflect a non-pathologizing, non-judgmental, trauma informed lens. Some links used in this course may include outdated language as not all resources currently reflect this evolution in understanding.
